Summary: According to a recent Ephraim Global study, the relation between health and employee productivity is more apparent than ever though only a minute percentage of business leaders successfully implement effective health programs.
The results of the study show that 57% of managers consider that relating health and worker performance is a limited aspect within their wellbeing programs, and while enterprises around the world are planning to bolster such strategies only 13% consider it a priority.
For many companies the main objective for their leaders in developing health programs and strategies is the desire to be considered as a responsible employer while focusing on more precautionary actions to reduce healthcare and disability spending.
“While it is certainly promising that more companies are developing health programs or are planning to do so in the future it is equally discouraging to notice that many of them do not recognize the intrinsic benefits of such strategies that can lead to increased employee productivity by managing absenteeism, stress and general performance. All of these beneficial aspects have been documented to have a positive impact on a business’ results; therefore one can only wonder why companies are promoting health programs if they cannot make the connection between employee wellbeing and corporate development” stated Josef Neidhardt, Senior Development and Strategy Manager at Ephraim Global.
The research also shows that a significant part of employees (38%) have linked health issues to decreased productivity, with a higher occupational engagement rate amongst individuals that have described their health as being good compared to peers that have stated that they are regularly facing health related problems.
On the other hand it would seem that managers place much more importance on occupational involvement (62%) rather than health (40%), even though health initiatives are becoming increasingly popular with business environments.
