Durham, UK, February 04, 2010 -- Alex Clark lives and works in the wilds of County Durham. Alex's passion for nature has led her to become one of the UK's best loved artists, her greetings cards, gift wrap and prints sell all over Europe and she is hugely popular in Australia. At this year's Spring Fair Alex will be introducing us to the latest characters in her menagerie. There's even more emphasis on colour and the detail of her artwork is as stunning as ever. Alex's stand at the Spring Fair NEC Birmingham will come alive with Als Pals - a glittering cast of smiling characters, some of whom we've all encountered in the real world - in fact Alex's human creations exude the same joy and energy as her famous animal prints and greetings cards but also include the added chuckle-facotr!
We asked Alex about her inspiration and plans for the future: "Initially my paintings were an expression of my love of the countryside and animals around me and so I painted what I saw in as much detail as I could - this can still be seen in my fine-art range of cards. Although hugely satisfying to paint, I soon became aware of an added dimension that I could bring to my work and I suppose this would best be described as joy and humour. The reaction I got at craft fairs and art exhibitions was very encouraging and I've continued to explore these themes whilst expanding my range of work to include the new Spring Occasions Cards and Als Pals. The latter have been particularly amusing as I've had friends and family asking me if the characters are based on them! I never quite know what to say! I'm really excited by the coming year and see expansion into the U.S. greetings card market as a 'must-do' - it is a huge opportunity to cement the future of the business side of things whilst allowing me to explore new themes."
Her business is located in an old sawmill by the banks of the Derwent in the village of Ebchester where she has lived for all her life. It’s a natural haven for all sort of wildlife with weasels, otters and just about every garden bird you can imagine likely to schedule an appearance at any moment. It is an environment that perfectly compliments the artwork that she publishes today. She is helped in the warehouse by her mum, her pet dog Elsie and a dedicated team of card wrappers and order packers without whom no work would ever be done!
