Asia Foundation and SAWES Launch Online Portal to Expand Women’s Entrepreneurship

New Delhi, August, 2015 — The Asia Foundation and the South Asia Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium (SAWES) launched sawes.org, an online portal which aims to help women entrepreneurs expand their business networks and promote market linkages across South Asia. A marketplace for women entrepreneurs, sawes.org helps women-owned enterprises and consultants showcase their products, services, and professional expertise. The portal provides a platform for registered members to discuss issues, share knowledge, and provides information on various trade shows and exhibitions that happen across the SAWES region. Women entrepreneurs and consultants can register athttp://www.sawes.org/login/joinfree, where they can add the products and services that they sell, and upload a video of their shop/factory/office along with a personalized message to customers. The portal was developed by eWIT (‘Empowering Women in IT’), an IT forum that supports and works towards sustainability of women in the IT/ITES sector. Since September 2012, The Asia Foundation and the U.S. Department of State (DOS) have partnered on this innovative South Asia regional program to advance women’s entrepreneurship. This program advances the U.S. Government’s “New Silk Road” goals of enhanced regional economic integration and increased trade across South and Central Asia and builds directly on the DOS 2012 South Asia Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium (SAWES).
