JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Legacy Village of Jacksonville announced today that construction on The Harbor, its new 24-bed memory care unit, is scheduled to be completed in early 2015.
“Providing a state-of-the-art Alzheimer’s, dementia and memory care facility to northeast Alabama fulfills our original vision for Legacy Village of Jacksonville,” says Clint Holyfield, executive director.
Tours of The Harbor along with a SimpleC demonstration are being scheduled weekly. Please call Nicole Smith for your tour at (256) 782-0960.
The Harbor concept is the result of years of cooperation with the Copper Ridge Institute, Emory University, Georgia Tech and Georgia State, and will be a significant step forward in the care for Alzheimer’s and other memory care patients in the region. The first Harbor was developed in Rome, Georgia and has received statewide and national recognition for the innovative design.
“Everything about The Harbor is done with the intention of enhancing the memory care treatment and helping those suffering from memory loss to continue living a full life with purpose and joy. We are glad that we are able to bring this unique, life-enriching, state-of-the-art concept to the Jacksonville community,” says Barry Ray, president of Legacy Senior Services, parent company of Legacy Village of Jacksonville.
Designed with 1950s Theme, to Remind Residents of Happier Times
The Harbor’s apartment suites will be configured especially for those with memory loss by incorporating a 1950s design theme to remind residents of happier times. The interior decor, furniture and common areas will reflect a vintage design, creatively intertwined with a 21st-century technology infrastructure. Colors will be bright and cheery with large six-foot windows in each apartment. Flooring types, textures and furnishings were chosen based on successful trends in memory care treatment.
A large area called the Town Center will be the hub of activities and socialization. Residents will engage in daily activities designed to help them meet their highest potential every day. The Harbor will be an extension of the 42 individual senior living units which already a part of Legacy Village of Jacksonville’s senior living facility.
One specific technology featured in The Harbor is SimpleC, a non-medical, touch-screen, memory stimulation system. The Harbor’s trained staff will work with families to select stories, pictures, interests and audio from trusted voices that assist in memory stimulation and provide timely reminders for activities of daily living.
